Carmine (also known as Cochineal Extract) is a natural red pigment derived from the female cochineal insect (Dactylopius coccus). The main coloring component is carminic acid.
Characteristic
Red to dark red powder or liquid. Soluble in water and alkaline solutions.
It exhibits excellent heat and light stability and is resistant to oxidation.
Provides a range of shades from orange to red to purple depending on pH.
